Opening Song — Hello Children
A great chance to go around the room, learning each child’s name, and using the world’s cutest rabbit puppet,  Folkmanis’ Dutch Rabbit.

Hello children, hello children, hello children
I’m glad you’re here today!
Hello [name of child], hello [another child’s name], hello [another child’s name]
I’m glad you’re here today!

Opening Song —  Can You Hop Hop Hop Like a Bunny
Can you hop, hop, hop like a bunny
And run, run, run like a dog?
Can you walk, walk, walk like an elephant
And jump, jump, jump like a frog?
Can you swim, swim, swim like a goldfish
And fly, fly, fly like a bird?
Can you sit right here like a quiet mouse
And not say a single word? Shhhhhhh!

(from Debbie Carroll’s CD Up and Over the Moon!)

Book #1  — A Boy and His Bunny by Sean Bryan
I was feeling goofy and followed Rob Reid’s advice in What’s Black, White and Reid All Over? and tied the bunny puppet to my head for the duration of the book. The kids just gawked but at least one parent took a photo of me. Sigh. Loving Reid’s latest books, plus all the ones he’s done before!

Action Song
— Little Peter Rabbit Had a Fly Upon His Nose
[to the tune of The Battle Hymn of the Republic]
Little Peter rabbit had a fly upon his nose,
Little Peter rabbit had a fly upon his nose,
Little Peter rabbit had a fly upon his nose,
So he flipped it and he flapped it and the fly flew away.

Fluffy tails and curly whiskers,
Fluffy tails and curly whiskers,
Fluffy tails and curly whiskers,
so he flipped it and he flapped it and the fly flew away.

We made bunny ears with our hands, flapped arms when we sang fly, and pointed at our noses.  Additional verses had the fly on our toes and on our shoulders. It was so much fun that we could have sang another ten times! Definitely my favourite part of this program.

Fingerplay — Here is a Bunny
Here is a bunny with ears so funny (hold up index and middle fingers for ears)
And here is his hole in the ground (make a circle with the other hand)
At the first sound he hears, he pricks up his ears (extend two fingers)
And hops in the hole in the ground (fingers jump into the hole)

(from Storytime with Miss Mollie)

Draw & Tell Story– Why Rabbits Have Long Ears
The original story came from More Tell and Draw Stories by Margaret J. Oldfield. It is now outdated so I changed it up to a story about a boy and an old man and took out the references to “Indians.”  This was my first draw and tell. It won’t be my last.

Book #2 — Easter Bunny’s Assistant by Jan Thomas
The kids didn’t find this one as funny as I thought they would but Jan Thomas can still do no wrong in my eyes.

Flannel/Felt — Tired Bunnies
Come my bunnies, it’s time for bed.
That’s what Mother Bunny said.
But first I’ll count you just to see
If you have all come back to me.

Bunny 1, Bunny 2, Bunny 3, oh dear!
Bunny 4, Bunny 5, yes, you’re all here!
You’re the sweetest things alive.
My bunnies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
(from Silly Librarian)

We counted the bunnies and talked about their colours after I put them on the board and then moved onto the rhyme below.

Counting Felt/Egg Shaker Distribution — 5 Little Bunnies/Hippety Hop, Hippety Hay
Hippety hop and hippety hay, (clap)
Five little bunnies went out to play. (clap)
Hippety hop and hippety hay, (clap)
One little bunny hopped away.(Hop, hop, hop, hop and handed out some egg shakers)

[counted down to one]
No more bunnies are playing today,
I hope they come back another day.

This was a pretty fun way to hand out the shakers!

Shaker Song — Shake Your Shakers Up
Shake your skakers up
And shake your skakers down
Shake your skakers to your sides
And Shake them all around.
Shake them on your shoulders
Shake them on your head
Shake them on your tummy
Then put them all to bed!

Audience Participation — Returning egg shakers to basket
Bunny with a [color] basket lost his eggs don’t know how
if you havea [color] egg come and give it to me now!

We decorated cut out bunny masks made out of card stock, using felt pens, cottonballs, chenille whiskers and chenille ties. The template came from

Dance with Music and Masks — Bunny Hop
So fun. So hard for the preschoolers to catch onto this one. They seemed to enjoy the hopping at the very least

Goodbye Rhyme — Wave high, Wave Low
Wave high, wave low,
I think it’s time, we gotta go.
Wave your elbows, wave your toes,
Wave your tongue and wave your nose.
Wave your knees, wave your lips,
Blow a kiss with fingertips.
Wave your ears, wave your hair,
Wave your belly and derriere.
Wave your chin, wave your eye,
Wave your hand and say “goodbye.”
